Federica Brignone after Dominique Paris: a fairytale weekend of skiing in Italy

A memorable weekend for Italian skiing. Following Dominik Paris’ victory in the Val Gardena downhill, Federica Brignone took a new victory in the Super-G in Val d’Isere, her third of the season and the 24th of her career, making her the most successful Italian of all time. The Italian clearly established herself in 1.21.58 with fast but very elegant skiing, ahead of the Norwegian Kajsa Vickhoff Lie (1.22.02) and Sofia Goggia (1.22.17), who, despite having the flu, performed well to finish on the podium. Brignone consolidated second place in the general classification with 557 points to Mikaela Shiffrin’s 620. After two races, Goggia and Brignone lead the Super-G category. For Italy, Laura Pirovano from Trentino finished seventh (1.28.38).

On Saturday, the Italian Dominik Paris took the victory, with a perfect race and a clear victory in the classic Val Gardena downhill on the entire Saslong route, with a time of 1.59.84. For the best Italian sprinter in history, it was the 22nd victory of his career, a real resurrection after a disappointing last season, which also saw rumors that he might retire. In second place was the Norwegian Aleksander Kilde, five-time winner of the Saslong, in 2.0028, while in third place was the American Bryce Brennett, winner of Thursday’s downhill race, in 2.00.44.
