The FBI is on alert for a possible attack on the Democratic Convention (August 19-22 in Chicago) in retaliation for the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

The information was contained in an intelligence report released by CNN on Thursday.

Security forces have not detected any preparations for an attack so far but remain on alert because “some elements in some virtual units have threatened, encouraged or referred in some way to violence in response to assassination attempts.”

The document warns that “political divisions have sparked violence in the past” and that some radical elements “see political and social tensions as opportunities to exploit and promote violence for ideological ends.”

On July 13, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks shot former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at an open-air rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, injuring his ear.

The investigation has not yet determined a motive for the shooter, who was shot by Secret Service agents.

Republicans and Democrats alike criticized the security blunder, which forced Secret Service Director Kimberly Chettle to resign.

The Democratic National Convention is expected to gather 50,000 people in Chicago, including prominent politicians such as President Joe Biden and Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
