Evidence gathering against Fearne and Scicluna continues today

Evidence gathering continued on Thursday against Chris Fearne, Edward Scicluna and 13 others in relation to the Vitals hospital franchise.

Former deputy prime minister Chris Finn, central bank governor Edward Scicluna and 13 others, including former and current permanent secretaries and lawyers, face fraud charges related to the concession of public hospitals to Vitals Global Healthcare. Finn and Scicluna also face charges of misappropriation of public funds and proceeds of fraud. The other defendants are accused of money laundering.

Charged along with Fearne and Scicluna are former permanent secretaries Alfred Camilleri and Joseph Rapa, current permanent secretary Ronald Mizzi, adjudication committee members James Camenzuli, Manuel Castagna and Robert Borg, financial director Kenneth Deguara, and five lawyers: Kevin Deguara, Jean Carl Farrugia, Aron Mifsud Bonnici, Deborah Anne Chappell and Bradley Gatt.

Fifteen defendants were charged with fraud, and Fearne and Scicluna were also charged with embezzlement and abuse of power to obtain the proceeds of fraud. Money laundering was also among the charges faced by the other defendants.
