EU governments approve 4.2 billion euros in payments to Ukraine – Euractiv

European Union governments on Tuesday (August 6) approved the first regular payment to Ukraine, amounting to 4.2 billion euros ($4.58 billion) of the EU’s 50 billion euro financial aid for Kiev.

The funds will be provided in the form of grants and loans after Ukraine meets the conditions for its release, which include reforms in public financial management, state-owned enterprise governance, business environment, energy and mine clearance.

EU governments agreed in March to a 50 billion euro fund for 2024-2027. So far, Ukraine has received 6 billion euros in bridge financing and 1.9 billion euros in pre-financing from the fund.

EU institutions are Ukraine’s largest financial aid donor, having provided 37 billion euros to Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance. Kiel Institute’s Ukraine Support TrackerHowever, the United States is the largest donor (75.1 billion euros in total) and the largest contributor of military aid (51.6 billion euros).
