Saturday is volleyball day at Tallinn’s Kalevi Sports Arena. The national team will play against Israel in the European Championship qualifying series.
If Estonia wins the control game and is the clear favorite, the women’s team will have to perform at a significantly better level than in the control game to win.
The Estonian women’s volleyball team is facing a severe test. The most important game of this summer is coming. Tomorrow they will face Israel at home, and on August 29 they will play away against Slovenia. This will be the opening game of the new European Championship qualifiers series. This will test whether they can regroup after the difficulties and play a wonderful game.
In the comparison match, they first beat Latvia away, but then suffered a heavy defeat to their southern neighbors and lost twice at home to Finland. Now that the negative emotions have been shaken off, they will sweat in the Karev Stadium on Friday to prepare for the match against Israel.
“We’re a bit of the same face in training and maybe a different face in the games. These games are still shocking for us and now we all try to leave it there and continue our great game,” said head coach Andres Tubal.
“Obviously, the opponents are good and strong and I think if we play well we have a good chance. It was a good training session today and we hope to continue with the same spirit tomorrow.”
Prior to arriving in Tallinn, the Israeli women’s team, which had beaten Austria in the Test match, had not played in an international series for two years and were therefore a fairly unfamiliar opponent.
“Yesterday we also received a video. A few days ago they were able to play against Austria and now we are here for two nights to see what we can learn from this game,” Toubal said.
Today’s training of the whole team passed by quietly, because cohesion and emotion are the strengths of the Estonian women’s team, and with their support they can show more confident and high-quality games.
“The quieter we are on the pitch, the more difficult it will be for us,” commented the head coach. “If we keep that noise and that fighting spirit, even if it’s artificial, both on the pitch and on the sidelines, and if the crowd can also carry us well into the game, then that’s one of the keys that we’ve been missing so far.”
The match between the Estonian and Israeli women’s teams will start at 15:50 on ETV2 and the ERR sports portal, and the two teams will continue the match at 18:50.
Since both teams have three players in the group stage, they must prove their superiority at home if they want to get a pass to the European Championship final.
