Agents of the Puerto Rico Police Department assigned to Corozal arrested this morning a 54-year-old man nicknamed “El Taken” for his alleged involvement in an incident of gender-based violence that occurred on Highway 159 in the Mavila neighborhood of Corozal.
According to police information, the accused allegedly appeared in front of an agricultural school in the city and started swearing at his ex-partner.
After being alerted, regional agents intervened but the man threw glass bottles at the officers before fleeing the scene in a white Ford Econoline, starting a chase through several roads and areas of the town.
During the pursuit, the man maliciously rammed four official vehicles before being detained at the intersection of Highway 164 and Highway 159 in Corozal. A Highway Patrol officer was shot in the face during the arrest.
The arrested person is named as Arístides Rivera Rivera, 54, a resident of Corozal, who remains at the Bayamon Command.
Special agent Ángel Negrón, assigned to the Corozal Police District, initially investigated the case, which was referred to the Gender Violence Division for possible criminal charges.
