Eight crocodiles in two pools at abandoned hotel On the Transpantaneira Parkway in Mato Grosso state, Rescued and released The operation took place last Wednesday, the 31st, and was carried out by a professional multidisciplinary team from the National Environment Secretariat (Sema-MT).

According to the team involved in the rescue, the animals took advantage of the stagnant water but were in danger of dying as they had been without food for several days. The crocodiles were removed using cambão, ropes and wood.

Waldo Troy, wildlife manager at Sema, explains that in addition to the logistics of the rescue, the team also had to deal with the strength of the animals. “This work would not have been possible without technology. The entire environment was analyzed. The role of the cambão is to immobilize each crocodile. They require more work, lifting and pulling, due to the size and weight of the adults,” he emphasizes.

Troy also elaborated that the second step is to immobilize them and then blindfold them to reduce their aggression. “The job is very stressful and you need to keep the animals safe. The power of the alligator’s tail is so strong that it can even knock people down. If this happens, it will affect the entire rescue operation and endanger our lives.”

The alligators were released into a lagoon in the Ampara Silvestre region of Transpantanera, where they will be monitored. Veterinarian Caroline Machado found one of the puppies very thin and lifeless. “We apply a vitamin complex and we will see how it evolves”.

According to the Ministry of Environment, another operation is needed at the site to remove other animals that remain in the space. Due to the lack of visibility, it is not possible to specify how many there are. The hotel manager was asked to remove the water from the pool by means of a pump to facilitate the work.
