Early on June 4, National Police agents arrested eight citizens accused of being members of the Los Lobos criminal group.
The police operation, dubbed Operation Massacre, was developed based on information provided by citizens through 1800-Crime.
The National Anti-Drug Investigation Agency, armed with this information, located and arrested the men after raids on several houses in the regions of Cayambe, Calderón and Tumbaco, located north and northeast of Quito.
They ordered the preventive detention of a man in Milagro who had 11 rifles in his home.
Investigations conducted revealed that the detainees specialized in the storage and distribution of drugs and supplied them to several dealers operating in the areas of Ascazube, El Quinche, San Vicente de Guarababa, Cayambe and surrounding towns.
The arrested persons are Ecuadorians, identified as Digna J., Gilbert V., Elizabeth Z., Raúl C. and José N., who were previously arrested for theft.
Also arrested were Yessenia Ch. and Stalin Napa, both of whom have records of trafficking illegal drugs, and Edwin P., who has a record of trafficking illegal drugs and theft.

During the operation, 4,077 grams of marijuana and 1,623 grams of cocaine, a total of 5,701 grams of narcotics, were seized.
Additionally, a gun, a feeder, ammunition, 12 cell phones, scales and $325.75 in cash were confiscated.
Detainees and evidence are provided to the competent authorities, while evidence goes to temporary collection centres and their respective chains of custody.
According to police, the operation removed about 22,000 doses of the drug from the illegal market. (I)
