– Flushing may take several days
Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) Chief Executive Officer, Shaik Baksh, yesterday said unprecedented sedimentation in the East Demerara Water Conservancy (EDWC) has contaminated the city’s water supply and flushing the system may take days.
Bakshi was speaking at a press conference about the sediment-laden brown water that has been flowing through pipes for the past few days, sparking anger among city residents.
Speaking at the utility’s complex, he said during the recent dredging of the reservoir during the dry season, silt accumulated and eventually flowed into the Georgetown Wisconsin Reservoir located in the shelterbelt, affecting water supply in the central area of Georgetown.
