Bajrektarević had to defend himself in the District Court of Kranj on charges of inflicting such serious injuries with a knife to a 44-year-old compatriot and acquaintance Leskovar at around 4:30 pm last December 28 in central Jesenice. He survived thanks to emergency medical assistance. In other words, he was guilty of attempted murder. The defendant Jesenican, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina who has lived in Slovenia since 1994, disagrees. “No one expected such an outcome. I thought I could solve everything with words. She and Leskova had already been out the night before. Bajrektarević says it was done in a friendly atmosphere. At the time, he even admitted to Leskova that he had slept with his ex-girlfriend in the past: “He told me he knew and that it was OK.” But as he is convinced today, this could be the reason. The bloody epilogue: “People always say that he wants to destroy everyone who is with her or will be with her.”

In combat position

“We didn’t take cocaine at his house that night,” he added. Asked how he explained that traces of the same drug were found in his urine a day later, he replied: “Maybe I took it an hour or so before and asked to lend him money.” “I lent him 50 euros and we parted normally, without conflict or resentment, which is why he was surprised when he received a phone message from Leskovar.” “I will not return your money. I will kill you when I meet you,” he allegedly wrote in the letter to him.

To discuss this, on that fateful day he met with Leskovar, whom he had known for years and was well aware of his reputation: “He is a well-known criminal. When he met you on the street, he beat you and robbed you of your money. We cannot back down from him and his threats.”

The defendant assured that when they met on that fateful day, Lescovar was already “in a combat position and tense”, holding the handle of a screwdriver: “Then Lescovar looked outside.” He ran away, but Lescovar followed him and threatened to kill him: “It was logical that he had a knife with him, because you can’t kill someone with a screwdriver, he was very afraid for his life and was full of adrenaline.” “And when he heard a knife fall to the ground in Lescovar’s hands, he picked it up. But he said it was only in self-defense, not to stab him. After that, there was “physical contact” between them, and both fell to the ground: “He fell on his back, and at the same time I rolled through him to his stomach. My hands were on his back and I felt the pressure. That’s why I immediately dropped the knife and stood up. “Lescovar is said to have “been stuck with the knife” at that time.

Reputation in Jesenice

The 44-year-old victim claimed that it did not happen as the defendant said.

The first time. Both men allegedly took cocaine the day before the incident.

In the car, Bairektarevic later asked him for a sedative “so that his father would not notice that he had been shot”.

The third time. He wanted to tell him by phone message that he had had enough of him and didn’t want to be with him anymore. “I noticed that he wanted to know everything from me, every little thing. He was interested in everything. Somehow I saw competition and that he was not my friend. I had a good reputation in Jesenice. People respected me. This obviously upset him very much, I always felt competition from him, but I never lowered myself to his level,” he said, adding that the defendant began to threaten him.

The fourth time. On the crucial day, the defendant allegedly arrived with a knife and looked “like a wild animal.” As Leskovar claimed, he carried a screwdriver with him only for self-defense. And he did not hit him on the head with the screwdriver, which he held a steel part, but with his fist: “I hit him on the fourth time, and then I fell to the ground.” Sam claimed that he asked the defendant to drop the knife several times, but in vain: “Even when several passing cars stopped and honked, he was not stopped.”

And what is the reason for the dispute? “Because I want him out of my life,” said Leskovar, who is demanding 23,000 euros in damages from the defendant.
