In recent days, Polynesian proxy counts have reached new heights, a sign of strong participation in these legislative elections: “It’s a bit like Christmas shopping, you wait until the last minute to buy these things. Well, it’s the same with proxies. Generally, people wait until the last few days to make a decision. Today we’re dealing with well over 300 proxies, and tomorrow Saturday we’re expecting about the same number. We’ve had over 1,500 proxies so far” explains Tatiana Dauphin, Chief of Staff of the Territorial Administration of the French Polynesian National Police (DTPN).

Daily turnout has more than tripled compared to the 2022 legislative elections. And this does not include the votes collected by the gendarmerie.

Among the 211,000 registered Polynesian voters, there is one public figure that particularly favors surrogates for these early legislative elections: “For these legislative elections, we’re seeing a relatively young public. We’re still very diverse demographically, but we have a lot of young people”.

New technology allows for last-minute proxying: Proxying can be done at DTPN locations up to 30 minutes before the polling station closes “Because it is delivered by electronic registered mail, the delivery is very fast. We have this great tool that allows the city hall to access the proxy made at the last minute in a very short time”.

National interest in this unprecedented election is also evident, with more than 2 million agents registered, double the number for 2022.
