Top digital radio and television (DRM) experts discussed the capabilities of DRM standards in supporting Indonesia’s public broadcaster Radio Republic Indonesia (RRI)’s fully integrated disaster and warning service, known as the Emergency Warning Function (EWF), at the third joint workshop.
The seminar, themed “DRM Emergency Warning Function – EWF in Indonesia”, was held on Thursday, 1 August.
During the conference, speakers highlighted how the operational and readily available DRM-EWF can automatically activate DRM receivers to inform the public and relevant authorities of impending disasters in Indonesia and beyond.
The speaker elaborated on how DRM receivers display visual and audio alerts and outlined the necessary steps for authorities and broadcasters to successfully adopt and integrate DRM-EWF into national alert infrastructures.
They explain how digital DRM reception platforms in homes, mobile devices, cars and outdoors can quickly alert the maximum number of people in affected areas, saving lives.
Speakers included RRI experts, representatives from Indonesia’s disaster agency, DRM receiver manufacturers and technical experts.
