The Brazilian national team coach announced the full-backs for Cruzeiro this Thursday.
Head coach Dorival Junior called up right back Willian cruiseThe player will replace Yann Couto, who was dropped due to “clinical issues”, in Brazil’s next two 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
As the 2016 Rio Olympic gold medalist, Willian got his first chance to play for the Brazilian team. He has been with Cruzeiro since last season and has become one of the team’s highlights this year.
According to Inter Milan, William is 29 years old and moved from Rio Grande do Sul to Wolfsburg in Germany in 2018. Last year he returned to the Chinese national team and played for Cruzeiro.
Brazil will play two qualifiers next month. On Friday the 6th, Dorival Júnior’s team will face Ecuador at Couto Pereira. Afterwards, they will travel to Asuncion and face Paraguay on the 10th.
Brazil are sixth in the South American qualifiers with seven points from six games, so the Selecao would only be able to secure the last spot at the 2026 World Cup if the qualifiers were concluded today.
