Today, many criminal trials are unable to proceed in courts across the country as barristers withdraw their services and seek full reinstatement of their fees.
Legal fees paid to criminal lawyers were cut during austerity measures as part of a package of emergency cost-saving measures.
The 2024 budget reinstates the 10% cuts, but the Law Society of Ireland has approved three days of strike action this month in a bid to restore them in full.
