Dobra Hrana – Traminac from Ilok is the winner of the Zelina competition, and Puhelek Purek Winery has received great recognition

This year, 273 samples were submitted for evaluation as part of the 56th Croatian Continental Wine Show, which was held in the “Kraluš” hall in the town of Sveti Ivan Zelina. They were evaluated by an 18-member expert committee under the leadership of Rector Dr. Ivan Alpeša. After the tastings, the committee awarded 88 gold medals, 111 silver and 49 bronze medals and 6 prizes.

It is worth mentioning that in 2013, Traminak’s selected dried berries Izvori života Zelenika-Ilok won the 56th Croatian Continental Wine Show and was awarded the Best Quality Wine Award.

“Our dried berry Traminac wine from the 2013 harvest comes from Ilok, from the oldest soil in the world, the Danube Plain. We plan to create a new label for it to mark the 500th anniversary of the Free Royal City of Ilok in 2025,” said Mirjana Zelenika of OPG Izvori života Zelenika-Ilok.

The “Ljerka Habuzin” award for the best wine of the native Kraljevina variety went to Puhelek Purek’s Kraljevina 2023. The “Milan Pažić” award for the best-scoring dry still white wine went to Arte doo Litterarii’s Chardonnay 2021. The “Pero Krznarić” award, which recognizes the best white wine with residual sugar addition other than upstream wines, went to Rhine Riesling’s Vinarije Kopjar 2022.

The Best Red Wine Award went to BELJE PLUS doo Winery for its Merlot 2021, the Best Sparkling Wine Award went to Vinarije Kopjar for its Organic White Sparkling Wine 2020, and the Best Sparkling Wine went to Vinarije Kopjar for its Organic White Sparkling Wine 2020. The Rated Fruit Wine was announced as Vino maline, 2023, Kupilek, vl Igor Jambrešić. Finally, Vinarija Kopjar won the award for the most beautiful visual image of the bottle “Dragutin Stražimir”.

The awards were presented to each wine by the Mayor of Sveti Ivan Zelina, Hrvoje Košćec, Tugomil Majdak – State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic, Tomislav Paškvalin – Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Zoran Milanovic and Marinka Zubčić Mubrin – Director of the Tourism Office of the Town of Sveti Ivan Zelina.

Since 2019, as part of the Croatian Continental Wine Show, awards have also been given to the best wines from Zagreb County. The awards are presented by Zagreb County Governor Stepan Kožic and are:

• Still dry white wine: SAUVIGNON, 2023, PUHELEK PUREK WINERY
• Still white wine with residual sugar: ZELENI SILVAAC, 2023, VINARIJA ŽNIDARIĆ
• Pink and black still wines: PINOT CRNI, 2023, VINARIJA PUHELEK PUREK
• Sparkling wine: PENUŠAC BOROSAK brut, ŽELJKO BOROSAK
• Last year’s harvest: Sauvignon Blanc, 2023, PUHELEK PUREK WINERY
• County Champion: Sauvignon Blanc, 2023, PUHELEK PUREK WINERY

In addition to tasting award-winning wines, the gathered visitors and winemakers can enjoy home-grown dishes made from local ingredients in a beautifully decorated area: from sausages, smoked ham and boiled bunkek, baked beans, polenta with crispy and cabbage rolls, to roast duck, breast, veal rolls, chicken and ham rolls, and homemade apple and cheese pies and plenty of fruit for dessert.

The wine exhibition is organized by the City of St. Ivan Zelina and is highly supported by the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the County of Zagreb.
