The name is self-explanatory: here we teach natural building techniques and tools, to build with minimal waste and create structures that protect ecosystems and guarantee the smallest possible environmental footprint.

The initiative was initiated by Boomland, an organization that uses the experience gained from 25 years of organizing the Boom Festival in Idanha-a-Nova, which has received the most relevant national and international awards and honors in the field of sustainable development and ecology, to pass on this concept. Type of knowledge.

The first Eco-Construction course of Boomland (whose motto is “Architecture in harmony with nature”) will take place at Herdade da Granja from September 12 to 15. “It will introduce different natural construction techniques, from residential structures and farms to other installations”, explain the course and festival promoters, who are now expanding the scope of their action, on the premise that everything they do “must have a positive impact on nature and the way people interact with it.”

“For more than a decade, we have been building and developing the vision of bio-architecture. In addition to soil in various forms, we also include buildings
Boomland materials include willow, rattan, straw, bamboo and all types of certified or local wood and stone. We have been running courses dedicated to sustainability, permaculture and agroforestry since 2012 and now we are expanding it to another area”, the organizers further explained.

The course will be divided into a practical part (80%) and a theoretical part (20%) and will be limited to 20 people who will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of “ecological practices and natural materials, fundamental to the preservation of ecosystems and the search for new sustainable forms of construction capable of reducing the carbon footprint”. Anyone can register, but this will be another opportunity for those who carry out their activities in the field of construction through sustainable processes and design (whether architects, builders, owners or others), and CRU – Arquitetura e Investigação will take on this role as tutor for this Eco-Construction course.

“The studio is located in Alentejo, but its architectural sites are universal, since they seek to contribute to the deepening and dissemination of constructive knowledge, based on a deep analysis of the ethical, aesthetic and energetic qualities of materials and local knowledge, and in architecture, through workshops (national and international) aimed at promoting an ecological and logical shift from the current paradigm.”
