In a post on social media, Medvedev quoted in English the conclusions of NATO’s summit in Washington, reiterating continued support for Ukraine and its future path to joining the alliance.
“The conclusion is obvious. We must do everything so that Ukraine’s ‘irreversible path’ towards NATO ends, either with Ukraine disappearing or with NATO disappearing. Or better yet, with the disappearance of both,” Medvedev wrote.
The July 10 Washington summit declaration referred to “Ukraine’s irreversible path towards NATO.” For Russia, there are two possible ways this path could end that are acceptable: either Ukraine disappears or NATO disappears. Even better, both.

Medvedev, who was seen as a mediator with the West during his presidency from 2008 to 2012, has emerged as one of the most belligerent Russian officials since the war in Ukraine began.
He has repeatedly warned the United States and European allies that their arming of Kiev could lead to a “nuclear catastrophe.”
