Kuwait City, June 23: An 86-year-old disabled Kuwaiti narrated a heart-wrenching incident in which he fell victim to a scam after being deceived by an imposter through a video call. After filing a complaint with Al-Dhahr Police Station (Case No. 983/2024), the elderly man revealed in an interview with Al-Anbaa that his entire bank deposit of 1,000 dinars was stolen just two days before Eid al-Fitr.
According to him, the scammer posed as an army captain in a video call at around 3:10 pm, claiming that he was assigned to provide him financial assistance due to his disability. The man believed the scam, disclosed his bank details, and unknowingly provided the OTP code as requested, resulting in his entire balance being stolen.
Recalling the incident, the old man lamented that even though he had come across this type of scam before, he was still easily gullible. He said he couldn’t believe he had fallen for it again and attributed the scam’s success to what he called a form of witchcraft.
He called on the Ministry of Interior and relevant departments for help and urged efforts to recover the stolen funds, highlighting the financial strain caused by the loss, especially considering his health condition.
