Apia, Samoa – July 9, 2024 – Digicel Samoa has announced a major milestone with five 5G sites now operational in the Apia Central Business District, kicking off the 5G deployment and providing customers with the opportunity to connect to 5G.
The company statement said Samoan customers with compatible 5G devices in and around Levili Data Centre, FMFMII, NFP Building, Tatte Building and Frankie Shopping Centre will be the first in Samoa to experience the power of 5G.
Anthony Seuseu, CEO of Digicel Samoa, said: “We are delighted to be the first mobile network to go live with 5G in Samoa. We are building on the solid foundation of our 4G network to usher in a new era of 5G connectivity.”
“This launch is not only about increasing speeds, it’s also about delivering a superior experience to customers in Samoa. The introduction of 5G opens up new possibilities and we are committed to continuously improving our network so that our customers can benefit from this transformative technology,” said Seuseu.
Customers with compatible 5G devices will be able to access faster speeds than current 4G, enabling superior streaming, lightning-fast download speeds and enhanced gaming experiences, the statement said.
The statement went on to say that initial test results from the new 5G sites show average speeds of up to 550-600Mbps, with a maximum potential of up to 1Gbps (speeds may vary based on location, distance from mobile towers, local conditions, concurrent users, hardware and software configurations, and download/upload destinations. In non-5G coverage areas, you will automatically switch to our 4G or 3G).
“This launch is more than just a technological advancement, it also demonstrates Digicel Samoa’s commitment to providing customers with an exceptional mobile experience.”
