Diamond and copper crisis causes mining output to fall 25.7% in Q1 2024
Mining production fell by 25.7% in the first quarter of 2024, with only soda ash and salt production increasing, with the remainder of mined resources reflecting contracted production.
The Botswana Bureau of Statistics revealed that the main reasons for the decline in mining production were diamonds and copper.
Diamond production in the first quarter of this year fell 27.4% compared to the same period in 2023.
