Damascus (for you) – The role of media institutions in developing awareness, belonging and identity, the role of youth and the importance of being true to our identity and civilization were discussed today at a dialogue meeting held at Damascus University, attended by Ministers Butrus Hallak, Minister of Information, and Bessam Ibrahim, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Many students, media professionals, professors and university deans participated in the session titled “Youth and the Development of National Culture and Identity… The Role of Universities, Media and Youth NGOs”.
Participants discussed the concept of modern liberalism, the most important challenge facing Arab culture and Syrian identity, its origins and its dangers to Arab culture, which seeks to change society for the worse and destroy human values.
Minister Hallaq stressed the role of the media and social media and their impact on public opinion, the changes that technology brings to society, the need to work to strengthen cultural ties, values and identities, and highlighted the challenges facing the media today. He drew attention to the difficulties he faces when it tries to impose the negative impact of the war on all sectors of Syrian society, especially the young.
On the other hand, Minister Ibrahim, while explaining the role of universities in strengthening the national identity of young people and the efforts to include young people in cultural institutions in order to protect their ideas and guide them to do what is good for them and their country, called for the need to face up to the difficulties faced by the Arabic language, especially foreign terms.
