The management of “Amman International Film Festival – First Cinema” announced the activities of the fifth edition of the festival, which is scheduled to be held from July 3 to 11 next year, with the participation of 53 films from 28 countries around the world.
The festival management said that according to a press release issued by the festival, this year’s festival will be characterized by a rich and diverse selection of films, in addition to a series of activities designed for film professionals and opportunities for audience interaction. Directors, actors and actresses, international experts and producers will come together to make this year’s festival an event not to be missed for film lovers and industry professionals.
The film program that will be screened includes Arab and international feature films and documentaries, as well as Arab short films. These films have been carefully selected from hundreds of titles to provide a unique cinematic experience, and all of them are films that premiered in Jordan in 2023 and 2024, including films that will be screened for the first time worldwide.
The films will compete in four categories of the Black Iris Awards, three of which are awarded by a jury: Best Arab Feature Film (seven films), Best Arab Documentary Feature Film (seven films) and Best Arab Short Film (16 films), while the Audience Award will be given to the winning film in the “Non-Arab Films” section (7 films).
The films will be screened at the Taj Mahal Cinema, the Royal Film Commission’s open-air theatre and the Rainbow Theatre, and additional screenings will be organized in various governorates in order to reach a wider audience in Jordan.
The films participating in the “Arab Feature Films” list category are: “God Willing, A Boy” directed by Amjad Rashid of Jordan, “I Miss You” directed by Tamir Rogli of Egypt, “Behind the Mountain” directed by Mohammed Ben Attiyah – Tunisia, “The Weary” directed by Amr Gamal – Yemen, “Gangster” directed by Kamal Al-Azraq – Morocco, “Backstage” directed by Afaf Ben Mahmoud and Khalil Ben Kiran – Morocco, Tunisia, and “Animalia” directed by Kamal Al-Azraq Sofia Alaoui – Morocco.
As for the feature-length documentary Arab film category: Helwa, My Land directed by Sarin Hayrabedian (Jordan), Hollywood Gate directed by Ibrahim Nashat (Egypt), Hiding Saddam Hussein directed by Halkut Mustafa (Iraq), and No Other Land directed by Basil Adra and Hamdan Bilal – Palestine, Wasila directed by Ren Razouk – Lebanon, Q directed by Joud Shehab – Lebanon, and Makain Al-Ruh directed by Hamida Issa – Qatar.
The films participating in the Arab Short Films category are: Rolling by Omar Al-Taher (Jordan), Bitter Sweet by Zaher Samir Qasibati (Syria), Smoky Eyes by Ali Ali (Egypt), and Scout Bird by Al-Qawuqji – Lebanon, Sukun by Dina Nasser (Jordan), In the Waiting Room by Moatasem Taha – Palestine, Lambs, Sheep and Crows by Ayman Hammo – Morocco, and Sukraniya 59 by Abdullah Khatib – Palestine, The Forest by Firas Al Taibe – Jordan, Salt of the Sea by Leila Basma – Lebanon, and Ahmed Al Yasser – Jordan, Lenny Africa by Marwan Labib – Tunisia, And Under by Elio Tarabay – Lebanon, The Canal by Gad Shaheen – Egypt, The Proposal by Nadia Al Khater – Qatar, and The Journey by Hania Bakhshwain – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
