Several children were crushed to death during a dance event in the small town of Souterport, England, on Monday.

Three girls died in the incident. Several others were seriously injured. A 17-year-old boy was charged with murder and attempted murder.

On Tuesday night, riots broke out outside a mosque in the city.

Sky News reported that demonstrators threw bricks at police.

Condemning false rumors

Police said in a press release that they suspected the far-right group English Defence League was behind the incident.

One officer’s nose was broken and a police car was set on fire, they wrote. Bottles and objects were also thrown at officers, they wrote.

They said the riot was linked to false information about the 17-year-old who has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

They claim a false name and photo of the killer have been circulated. Police deny this.

– Police Officer Alex Goss said some people are taking advantage of this to engage in violence and disorder on our streets.

Information circulating on social media claimed the man accused of murder was an asylum seeker who came to the UK by boat, while British police confirmed the 17-year-old was from Wales.

– We have already said that the person was born in the UK and these rumours are not helpful to anyone at the moment, the police wrote in a press release reprinted by Sky News.
