It makes no sense that a party that received less than 10% of the vote in the June 9 election will be prime minister of the next government. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (Open VLD) said on Monday Election Table On Play4.

Prime Minister De Croo reiterated on Monday that he believed that the heavyweights of each party should be in the government. He said earlier in the day on Radio 1 that this should prevent decisions made on the government desk from being vetoed from outside.
Lawyer Walter Damen is one of the guests at the table for the election special Gert’s Deskand then asks whether getting 8% is a heavyweight party – Open VLD has 8.2%, according to the latest polls from Het Laatste Nieuws, VTM Nieuws, RTL and Le Soir.
“Eight percent is not what you say: now I am in charge,” De Croo said. If De Croo’s party falls below 10%, will he still be the candidate for prime minister? “I don’t think that’s logical or possible. If you are below 10%, then you have to say: there are others who are going to be stronger, and then it’s up to them.”
“The crisis was handled very well”
“This government was formed at a strange time, after 18 months when things had been going in all directions and people suddenly realised there was a crisis coming,” De Croo said. “In the end we had to contain not one crisis but three: Covid, Ukraine and the energy crisis.”
De Croo said the government had handled these crises well, though not perfectly. “Now we are entering a new phase where you need a purely socio-economic plan.”
