Maya Kingma won 10th place in the Olympic relay with the triathlon team
The Dutch mixed relay team, which includes Maya Kingma from Breda, finished tenth in this morning’s Olympic relay. During the Tokyo Olympics, the Dutch team finished fourth in this event.
The victory in Paris belongs to Germany. The Netherlands is 1 minute and 58 seconds behind Germany.
The mixed relay is also known as the “super sprint” because each athlete only does it for a short time. The athletes must swim 300 meters, bike 8 kilometers and run 2 kilometers in sequence.

Nils Larose no longer feels pressured

He noted that he is in “fantastic” form. “I’ve done track training that I never thought I could do, at such an intensity. I also did much better at the world championships in Budapest than I did last year, but I peaked much earlier that year because I wanted to extend my European junior title.”
Olympic triathlon team events can go ahead
The Olympic triathlon team events on the Seine River continue today. The Paris Olympic Organising Committee said in a press release last night: “The latest analysis results confirm that the water quality of the Seine River, where the triathlon will take place, has improved in recent hours and indicate that the water quality will be within acceptable limits during the competition.”
Due to heavy rains on Wednesday and Thursday, the water quality of the Seine River has deteriorated again, raising doubts about whether the mixed relay can be completed as planned. Yesterday’s route exploration was cancelled because the water quality has not yet reached the required hygiene standards.
Earlier during the Paris Olympics, the men’s triathlon individual event was postponed for a day because the river water was too dirty. Then the showers on the opening weekend caused the water quality to deteriorate again.
The Dutch team is joined by Breda’s Maya Kingma, Rachel Kramer, Richard Murray and Mitch Kolkman in the mixed relay. Later this week, open water swimmers will also have to enter the Seine for the Olympic Games. Sharon van Rouwendaal, the 2016 Rio champion, will be in contention for a medal.
The water quality of the Seine has been a concern during the Paris Olympics, although Paris has taken many measures to make the water cleaner. For example, a purification plant was opened near the Marne River, which flows into the Seine River east of Paris. It must ensure that clean water flows from the Marne River into the Seine River. French authorities have spent about 1.4 billion euros to improve sewage treatment and rainwater facilities around Paris.
