What’s wrong with consumers? That’s one of the toughest questions about the strange economic moment we’re in. A version called “vibecession” was previously reported. But it’s safe to say that this struggle is real. It doesn’t just exist in our imaginations. Sure, some of the data looks good. But not all of it.

Today on the show, we’re going to explore some theories as to why feelings don’t match the data. We’re going to break down some numbers and explain how to think about them. Then we’re going to look specifically at grocery prices and try to use a mostly forgotten 1930s law to combat unfair pricing. Does it really work?
