Darfur Health Minister: Militia human rights violations are aggressive, brutal and systematic

Port Sudan, August 11, 2024 (SUNA) – The Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the Darfur Regional Government, Professor Babiker Hamdeen, stated that the Rapid Support Militia used terrible, bloody and indiscriminate shelling on the city of El Fasher, causing heavy casualties. Residential areas were destroyed, resulting in the killing of hundreds of civilians, the destruction of service institutions, especially medical facilities, and the siege of the city, preventing the delivery of food, medical and oil supplies to it, in order to punish the population through collective punishment. Starvation and deprivation of basic services and supplies necessary for their survival, as well as deliberately committing the most heinous crimes and violations against Sudanese citizens, including murder, rape, displacement, looting and pillage (systematic poverty). This is not an isolated attack, but a method of war using cruel and systematic aggressive tactics and strategies against the Sudanese people.

In a statement to (SUNA), Hamdeen said that this approach aims to subjugate the Sudanese people, humiliate them and break their will in order to make them submit and surrender, but they are delusional and forget that the Sudanese people are a resistant, confrontational and strong-willed people who do not accept humiliation and injustice no matter what hardships and misfortunes they face, are capable of fighting against their tyranny and tyranny and will be defeated by evil. The Minister pointed out that unfortunately, these atrocities deliberately committed by the militias have been met with blatant inaction from the international community and a complete lack of international legitimacy, humanitarian law and human rights law, which has prompted the militias to persist in committing these atrocities without hesitation to carry out more violations. His Excellency called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities and decisively deal with the violations of the militias through international resolutions that affect the militia leaders.
