Damien Lowe joins Saudi Professional League club Al Ahdood to start a new chapter in his career

Jamaican international Damien Lowe has started a new chapter in his football career, signing a two-year contract with Saudi Professional League club Al Ahdood FC.

Lowe from Major League Soccer Joining Major League Soccer (MLS) side Philadelphia Union marks the latest move in his career as he joins a growing list of international players heading to Saudi Arabia, led by global superstars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Karim Benzema and Sadio Mane.

Lowe is no stranger to the move, joining fellow Reggae Boyz Demarai Gray and Andre Gray who made a similar move to Saudi Arabia last summer. The 31-year-old defender is excited about the opportunities in the Saudi professional league and cited the region’s growing passion for football as a motivation for his decision.

“Playing in the Saudi Professional League is an exciting new chapter in my career,” Lowe said. “I’m eager to perform at my best on the pitch, embrace the culture, and make an impact on and off the pitch. The passion for football there has been incredible lately, and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Lowe played 47 games for Philadelphia.

Lowe will leave his mark on Najran, a city Ahdod The club finished 15th in their inaugural season in the Saudi Professional League and Lowe’s arrival is expected to bolster their defensive squad.

The move also ends Lowe’s career with the Philadelphia Union, where he played alongside fellow Jamaican and Reggae Boyz captain Andre Blake. Lowe has made 47 appearances for the Philadelphia Union, scoring three goals, since joining the team in January 2022. In his first season, Lowe helped the Philadelphia Union reach the Eastern Conference semifinals, where he narrowly lost to FC Cincinnati.

Lowe’s final appearance for Philadelphia came in the League Cup quarterfinal against Mazatlan, where he made a prominent contribution with a penalty kick as Philadelphia won 4-3 after the game was tied 1-1 in regulation time.

Lowe is looking forward to his new adventure in Saudi Arabia, he is eager to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead and believes his experience in international football will stand him in good stead in the Saudi Professional League.
