On December 20, Damian Green sat faithfully to Theresa May’s right at the final Prime Minister’s Questions of the year, and loudly supported him at all the right moments. Later that day, Mrs May forced him to resign as First Secretary of State, effectively making him Deputy Prime Minister.
The Cabinet Office investigation found that Mr. Green’s claims that he had no knowledge of pornographic material found on his parliamentary computer by police during an investigation into government leaks in 2008 were true. (Mr. Green maintains that he did not download or view the material and that none of it was illegal, but he admitted that he had misspoken earlier this year when he said he was unaware that police had found it.) The Cabinet Office investigation also found that allegations of sexual misconduct against Kate Maltby, a Conservative activist and journalist, were “credible.”
