Daily Express – Western Pacific Island News – Red Cross: Guam receives $13.1 million in aid for residents after Hurricane Marwar

The American Red Cross spent approximately $13.1 million to help Guam residents respond to Typhoon Mawar, according to a report from the American Red Cross national headquarters. Marcos Fong, chairman of the Guam chapter board of directors for the Red Cross, said the funds helped Guam residents receive 342,000 meals and snacks in the aftermath of Mawar and provided more than 30,000 overnight stays for the 27,000 residents who received support from the Red Cross in the aftermath of the disaster. Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero shared details of the report during a meeting in Adelup Monday morning. Fong said of the $13 million provided, $540,078 went to Guam for Mawar relief efforts, with approximately $1 million coming from the Pacific Islands region. Fong noted, “For a community of our size, this is an impressive performance, even by national standards.”
