Guam Governor Lou Leon Guerrero says a new threat has emerged on the island. He delivered a special address last weekend on fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that was once a national problem and is now a local issue. “Obviously, Guam is no stranger to the war on drugs, but the reason I am speaking to you now is because we are facing an invisible killer, a potent and deadly substance called fentanyl. This synthetic opioid has been ravaging the nation in recent years, and now it is beginning to overshadow Guam,” the governor said. First responders – police, EMTs and paramedics – are equipped and trained to administer naloxone, which is used to “rapidly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, including those caused by drugs like heroin, fentanyl and prescription pain relievers.”
