KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Finance has increased customs duties on 11 types of imported goods, according to a statement on Sunday.
These included imported potatoes, macaroni, potato chips, building paints, semi-finished bottles, paper handkerchiefs, cartons, drinking fountains, clay tableware, raw medicinal materials and Altonsa
Mullah Abdul Kasir Haji Ederes, head of the Customs and Excise Department, said the decision was taken to support locally produced products, adding that it would be implemented after approval from the Ministry of Finance.
The import duty on ashes and macaroni will increase from 20% to 25%, the import duty on potatoes and potato chips will increase from 30% to 50%, the import duty on building pigments will increase from 10% to 16%, and the import duty on semi-processed bottles will increase from 2.5% to 6.5%.
In addition, the tariff on tissue paper increased from 5% to 10%, the tariff on cartons increased from 16% to 40%, and the tariff on shoes increased from 5% to 10%.
The import duty on water dispensers will be increased from 5% to 10%, the import duty on crockery will be increased from 5% to 16%, and the import duty on Altonsa powdered juice will be increased from 10% to 30%, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.
Previously, the Ministry of Finance also raised tariffs on some commodities.
