Since the beginning of the unrest, secondary fallouts have increased by 280%. This number is huge. More than two months after the crisis began on May 13, the exact figures of these fallouts (that is, young people who have dropped out of educational institutions) have been published. According to an information note on crisis management sent by the General Directorate of Education to elected representatives in the New Caledonian Parliament, two months after the start of the crisis, a high level of activity among secondary school students was recorded.
Of the 30,600 students who were on campus before the riots, 327 transferred schools, compared with 86 in the same period in 2023. This represents a 280% increase in the number of students who moved. These transfers mainly involved middle school students, who numbered 256. The number of high school students who transferred was 71.
These internal changes almost exclusively concern institutions located in the southern provinces.
Of the 309 students enrolled, 110 students continued their studies in the Loyalty Islands Province, 7 students continued their studies in the North Province and 192 students transferred to other schools in the South Province.

The Academy also recorded the departure of 194 secondary school students outside New Caledonia, mainly in the South Province, where the governor, Sonia Backès, spoke a few days ago about these cascading fallouts on her Facebook account. The data she published this time concern primary schools.
The table is compared with 2023. Most of the students removed between May 14 and July 21 of this year will eventually receive an education in France, a large part of them also in the Islands Department.
