Starting tomorrow, the Creative Macau Gallery will present a variety of artistic expressions. The exhibition “21st Century – 21st Anniversary Members’ Collective Exhibition” accommodates 29 participants, including photographer and architect Francisco Ricarte, cartoonist Rodrigo de Matos or designer João Jorge Magalhães
The exhibition, titled “21st Century – 21st Anniversary Members’ Collective Exhibition”, is a new exhibition launched tomorrow at Creative Macau. The public will have the opportunity to explore the works of 29 local artists in the most diverse artistic formats, including photography by Francisco Ricarte, cartoons by Rodrigo de Matos, who regularly draws for Portuguese newspapers Ponto Final and Expresso, and designs by Macau native João Jorge Magalhães.
You can also see the work of Denis Murrell, a painter based in Macau, or Elisa Vilaça, a puppet expert at the Portuguese School of Arts and Crafts in Macau.
According to a note from Creative Macau, the idea here is to shed light on the various types of artistic styles. “Over the centuries, art has been divided into different periods, styles and doctrines, such as the Renaissance, Baroque, Pop Art, Contemporary Art, etc. These unique art movements emerged in response to social phenomena of their respective times.”
Creative Macao recalls that “the origins of art can be traced back to the Paleolithic era” and that over the centuries there have been various movements, forms of expression and means to develop the same art. One of these is the digital and internet age, which has “greatly influenced the creative production of artists” and allowed “artists to connect and communicate with each other, integrate different cultures into their art and reach a global audience”.

The theme of the Creative Macao exhibition is “Creative Networks in the 21st Century”, reflecting “the important role that the Internet plays in the cultural industry as a means of connecting people”. For its part, Creative Macao – Centro das Indústrias Criativas, especially in its 21st year, “has always been at the forefront of this trend” [da ligação em rede da arte]bringing together artists from different fields to share their creations with the public and communicate with each other.”
The entity, which celebrates its 21st anniversary this year, aims to “provide its members with a platform to freely share their creativity with the public by showcasing their works through exhibitions and other events organized annually in the field of art.”
Other artists who have collaborated with this exhibition and have exhibited their works in solo or group exhibitions at Creative Macao include Mo Shaofen, Zhang Youzhi, Alice Costa, Angel Chan, Carmen Lei, Christopher Lei, Coco Cheong and David Chio.
Also noteworthy is the name of Maria João Das, a fashion designer with many years of experience in the textile industry and design, who taught fashion courses at the University of São José.
