The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) is devastated by the death of yet another child at the hands of a criminal. Eight-year-old Shante Skyers, who went missing on April 11, was found dead by search and rescue crews at Stirling Castle in St Andrew yesterday.

Upon receiving the information from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), CPFSA Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Rosalee Gage-Grey, said the agency was hopeful of a favourable outcome.

“We have been communicating with Shante’s family but there are really no words that can comfort this grieving mother. So we continue to pray for the family and offer support. We have also informed our first responder team to provide additional counseling support as needed.

Through our Ananda Alert programme, we have formed alliances with the Police Communications Network (CCN), the Missing Persons Call Centre (MPCC) and media outlets to disseminate information about missing and found children. This information is disseminated in the form of press releases and social media sharing,” she said.

The CPFSA commends the community members as well as the search and rescue teams for their quick actions. The agency continues to call on every Jamaican to take action and be more vigilant in caring for and protecting the country’s children.

CPFSA extends its deepest sympathies to Shante’s family, friends and classmates and encourages anyone with information to come forward and assist police with their investigation.
