Libreville, Monday, July 1, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – From June 27 to 29, 2024, the first National Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Gabon was held in Libreville, with the theme: “Challenges for CSR in Gabon and issues of CSR regulation for inclusive growth in the Gabonese Republic”.
During this forum, participants took part in panel discussions on topics such as the economic and environmental context of CSR, as well as workshop work on a national consensus on CSR diagnostics and the development of a CSR strategy in Gabon.
Thus, in his speech, the Prime Minister revealed the importance of corporate social responsibility in Gabonese society, while stressing the urgency of finding a balance between the private interests of companies and the general interests of the population.
“In order to respond to the changes in contemporary society by considering reforms in public services, we need private action by companies to build relationships of trust and joint projects with all public authorities, a corridor that cannot be conceived by the concept of corporate social responsibility,” stressed Raymond Ndong Sima, who launched the work of the Forum.
Marie Paulette Amouyeme Ollame epse Divassa, Minister of Commerce, SMEs and Small and Medium Enterprises, in charge of income generating activities, explained the importance of corporate social responsibility, especially in the context of development taking into account social and environmental considerations.
The forum, organised by the Ministry of Commerce, SMEs and Small and Medium Enterprises responsible for Income Generating Activities (AGR), recorded 76 recommendations made by the Scientific Committee headed by Dr Yanique Ekobevet Allogo.
This includes, among other things, promoting unitary, horizontal and transversal legal governance through inter-ministerial coordination of CSR regulations, strengthening public sector capacities, acquiring more skills dedicated to CSR, making CSR a vehicle of social solidarity to reduce territorial inequalities, and developing a national CSR strategy in sports so that national championships can bear fruit.
Ultimately, attendees hope to establish an oversight committee as soon as possible.
