The Institute of Public Health will create a new pool of reference laboratories to guarantee the quality and protection of citizens’ health in a changed environment and contemporary conditions.
Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu, accompanied by PIH Director Eugena Tomini, today inspected the progress of the construction works of the new laboratory unit of PIH, invested by the Government and the Ministry of Health.
Minister Koçu said that all laboratories of the Institute of Public Health will be systematized within a building area of about 3,000 square meters.
”Reference laboratories will be located here, with completely modern conditions. In addition to infrastructure, we will ensure that we also have a number of important laboratories that have and will have extraordinary influence, in which PIH and experts will constantly work to guarantee the quality of health of citizens”, Kociu stressed.
The Minister stated thatBy 2025 we expect that all PIH laboratories will be in modern conditions and separated from the administration, providing another renovated and suitable environment for all employees”.

Health Minister Koçu also spoke about the situation caused by viral diseases, monkeypox and Nile fever.”We have the situation under complete control because the ISHP has taken all the measures. But even in the case of monkeypox, we are not affected as a country or as a region. We have no chance.”, Koçu declared.
The minister called for coordination with local authorities regarding the situation caused by Nile fever, especially in cities where cases have been detected.
ISHP Director Eugena Tomini said “The Emergency Disease Virology Laboratory has further enhanced its monkeypox laboratory diagnostic capacity as well as its vaccination capacity, providing 100 vaccines to primary cases and their contacts, and then continuing to provide vaccines to high-risk groups.”.
Silva Bino, head of the Epidemiology and Infectious Disease Control Department, confirmed that they have strengthened all control measures by continuing entomological surveys in collaboration with the municipalities. She stressed that “In the coastal areas, we have not had any cases due to the disinfection program”.
With the completion of the new building, all laboratories in the PIH Center Building will be relocated to modern office space to ensure more effective response to public health with a higher, modern and timely level of laboratory diagnosis.tvklan.al
