Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has launched the second phase of the Al Sharqiyah Motorway project, from Al Kamil to Sur.
The project, implemented by Al Tasneem Projects Limited, connects the North Al Shirkiya Governorate and the South Al Shirkiya Governorate.
The project, which cost over OMR 68 million, includes upgrading the existing road to a three-lane dual carriageway road stretching 52 km from Al Kamil to Sur, and a two-lane dual carriageway road stretching 3 km from Sur roundabout to Sur Plaza Hotel. Other constructions include an overpass, cross-valley bridge, arch overpass, vehicular tunnel and pedestrian tunnel. The project also includes the completion of lighting works and the installation of traffic lights in Sur Governorate.
This important project aims to facilitate transportation between the two provinces and promote economic and social development. It is expected to take about 22 months to complete. The project will also transform the “Bilad Sur” roundabout into a traffic light and install lighting equipment on a 3-kilometer section of Sur.
