Muscat: Competition is heating up in the ongoing Oman Club Badminton Championships as the competition enters the final rounds on Saturday.
The three-day event, which began on Thursday and is organized and supervised by the Oman Racket Sports Council (ORSC), will end on Saturday with a closing ceremony that will include holding the finals of the senior doubles category and presenting awards to the winners and all contributors, sponsors, referees and administrators at the AMM Sports Stadium in Ghala. The closing ceremony will be presided over by Abdullah bin Khamis al Kindi, Member of the State Council, and attended by ORSC Chairman Dr. Abdulrahim bin Musallam al Droushi, dignitaries and officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.

The preliminary round of the first Oman Club Badminton Championship saw players from 12 clubs from five governorates compete: Al Amerat, Al Kamil Wal Wafi, Bausher, Oman, Seeb, Al Shabab, Sohar, Majees, Salalah, Masirah, Qurayat and Ibri clubs. The regular singles category had 31 players divided into 8 groups. The regular doubles category had 19 teams divided into 4 groups, while the under-15 category had 17 players divided into 4 groups.

Ibri club head coach Hilal Maghrahi said he believed ORSC had a busy schedule this year, including major domestic tournaments, with strong competition. “These tournaments will actively contribute to the promotion and spread of the sport at the local level and strengthen its international status,” he said.
Akram Yousef Hajji, an Omani club player, affirmed that the inaugural Omani Club Badminton Championship will be held at a high level. “This is the first time the championship is held in Oman and it is of great significance. It has encouraged many professional and domestic players to participate in the competition and gain experience, which will help them make great strides in the sport in the near future.”

Mahdi Al Rawati, a player from Sibu, said: “A special thank you to ORSC for all the hard work they put into organizing the opening ceremony of this tournament. I have been participating in this tournament for three years and there has been no domestic tournament before. I am very satisfied with this tournament and look forward to continuing to hold more similar tournaments.”
Referee Team
Iranian referee Seyed Omid Moghadaszadeh was appointed chief referee, assisted by Omani referee Ahmed al Mafraji, eight other referees, four of whom are from Oman, namely Hamed al Harassi, Sheikhan al Abri, Haitham al Shibli and Mohammed al Wardi, in addition to 12 line judges.
Ahmed Mavraj said: “This championship is very exciting as many top players from different age groups will participate. This event will help promote the sport more widely in all provinces. We have seen excellent performances from the players in the first two days of the championship and are looking forward to the final on the last day.”
