Young entrepreneurs were invited to set up stalls at the International Youth Day event held at the dome of Te Are Karioi Nui (National Hall) today.

The International Youth Day event was co-organized by the Cook Islands Family Welfare Association and the Cook Islands National Youth Council (CINYC).

There will be activities, food and fun for the whole family.

International Youth Day is celebrated on August 12 every year to draw the attention of the international community to youth issues and to celebrate the potential of young people as partners in today’s global society.

International Youth Day provides an opportunity to celebrate and promote the voices, actions and initiatives of young people, and their meaningful, universal and equitable participation. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) established International Youth Day on 17 December 1999, following its approval of the recommendation of the World Conference of Youth Ministers to designate 12 August as International Youth Day.

Reestablished in 2008, CINYC is an autonomous non-governmental organization that aims to effectively represent island and waka youth groups on policies and issues of concern to the country’s youth.
