Chronicles of our time

The challenge for newspaper photographers is to get out into the community and capture the moments that tell the news story of the day. At the Chronicle Herald (the province’s oldest newspaper), that means traveling cities, towns, provinces (and sometimes the world) to collect the day’s most important, newsworthy and moving images. The Chronicle of Our Time collects those images, along with the stories of how they made it to the front page (and sometimes didn’t).

The collection includes photographs recalling the province’s best and worst times, depictions of daily life, and important local figures. The most powerful photographs speak for themselves; others are accompanied by full captions that tell the story of the news event that triggered the photo, while also providing insight into the challenges newspaper photographers face in capturing the perfect shot.
