A Chinese worker who used a forged Philippine passport to obtain entry permission and work was asked to leave the country by the end of August.
Bolton Tengoll, acting director of Palau’s immigration department, wrote to Chinese worker William Lim and his employer Vance Polycarp on August 16: “I regret to inform you that Mr. Lim has been determined to no longer be eligible to continue to reside in the Republic of Palau and that it is in the best interest of Palau to deny him entry.”
The government’s due diligence revealed that Lin had submitted a forged Philippine passport. Based on this finding, the Immigration and Employment Services cancelled Lin’s entry and work permits.
According to documents obtained by the Palau Times, Lin allegedly arrived in Palau as a tourist in December 2023 and applied for and received a work permit at HK Lucky Restaurant in January 2024.
Although the background check results have not yet been released, Mr. Lin was still granted a work permit on February 20, 2024.
Tengoll said Polycarp was responsible for ensuring Lim left Palau within 10 days of receiving the letter. Immigration authorities said Lim had to leave Palau by August 26.
The Immigration Department warned that if they fail to leave the country by the specified date, Polycarp and Lin will be liable for any charges and penalties for not complying with the deportation order. (By Bernadette Carreon)
