Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, March 30 (Reporter Chen Cong) Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with visiting Serbian President Nikolic in Beijing on March 30. The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the “Belt and Road” and “16+1 Cooperation” mechanisms.
“16+1” refers to China and 16 Central and Eastern European countries.
The two leaders also agreed to promote progress in the comprehensive strategic partnership. Serbia is the first Central and Eastern European country to establish a strategic partnership with China.
China is willing to work with Serbia to deepen all-weather friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation.
The two sides should maintain high-level exchanges as well as exchanges at all levels including government, legislature, political parties, and localities.
China hopes to strengthen the connection between the Belt and Road Initiative and Serbia’s re-industrialization strategy and promote large-scale cooperation projects such as the Serbia-Hungary railway.
It is suggested that the two sides explore cooperation in industrial parks and jointly promote infrastructure construction, capacity cooperation and industrial development.
The two sides should strengthen cooperation in areas such as agriculture, biomedicine, and renewable energy, expand exchanges in areas such as tourism and culture, and enhance the friendship between the two peoples.
China expects Serbia to continue to play its role in China-Central and Eastern European countries cooperation to better benefit the people of both sides.
Nikolic said that the Serbian people admire China’s development achievements and hope that China will play a greater role in international and regional affairs.
Serbia appreciates China’s adherence to mutual respect and equal treatment in developing relations with other countries. Serbia will always firmly pursue the one-China policy.
Nikolic said that Serbia is willing to strengthen practical cooperation with China in areas such as infrastructure, production capacity, mining and agriculture.
He said that Serbia will actively participate in the construction of the “Belt and Road”, deepen cultural exchanges, and promote cooperation between Central and Eastern European countries and China.
After the talks, Xi Jinping attended a ceremony to award the Serbian President the title of “Honorary Citizen of Beijing”.
Before the talks, Xi Jinping held a red carpet welcome ceremony for Nikolic.
At the invitation of Xi Jinping, Nikolic paid a state visit to China from March 28 to April 1.
