Chiefs from several regions in the Northern Region have expressed appreciation for President Lazarus Chakwera’s gentle, humble and service-oriented leadership.

The Malawian leader expressed this during a courtesy call on Chiefs Karonga, Chitipa, Nkatabai and Lunfi.

The chiefs expressed their condolences to President Chakwera over the recent tragic plane crash which claimed the life of former Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight other prominent figures. This was the first official event of the President since the June 10 accident.

In his speech, Paramount Chief Kunu acknowledged that Chakwera had faced many challenges during his presidency, including the COVID-19 pandemic, Cyclone Freddy, floods and the ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe, which had an impact on the country’s economy. Kunu praised the President for his strong and composed leadership during difficult times.

“You have demonstrated fatherly leadership during these trying times. We continue to respect you because you are a God-given leader who is humble. Strong and focused. You are a visionary leader and you must continue on the path of developing Malawi,” Kungu said.

President Chakwera thanked the chiefs for their condolences and their cultural guidance in dealing with bereavement. He also expressed his condolences to the traditional tula of the area where the plane crashed and all the chiefs present, acknowledging this national tragedy that affects every Malawian.

The story highlights the appreciation that northern chiefs have for Chakwera’s gentle, humble, service-oriented leadership during his tenure, especially in the face of challenges and tragedies.
