On July 23, during the second day of the criminal session of the Bangui Court of Appeal, two defendants were found guilty of rape and lethal assault. The first, Fiacre Landry Tanga, was prosecuted for the murder of his wife and sentenced to 20 years of forced labour, while Jordy Mbétimangué was prosecuted for the rape of a minor and received an 18-month suspended sentence.
Just as the trial of Fiacre Landry Tanga, who was charged with assault causing death, began, his lawyer, Simplice Serge Solet Bomaoko, raised an exception. This concerned the fact that his client had spent two years in prison before his trial, which was a violation of the Criminal Procedure Code. After hours of arguments, the judges rejected the exception in their first deliberations without giving any reasons.
It was proved that on July 3, 2022, the accused beat his concubine due to jealousy on August 8 in Galabaja district.th Bangui district. Death followed a few hours later. Driven by the testimony of the defendants and the victims’ families, the court considered the indictment of the defendants for 20 years of forced labor at the request of the Attorney General’s Office.
The court convicted him of battery and battery resulting in death under article 70 of the Central African Criminal Code.

The defendant’s lawyer, Maître Simplice Serge Solet Bomaoko, denied the decision and announced an appeal to the Supreme Court.
“We are dealing with a criminal case and it is not normal when we are presented with copies of certificates instead of originals. Because it is on this basis that we find that a crime has been committed. I can only be disappointed. I will discuss with my client to see if there is a chance to revoke the original verdict”, The defendant said.
In another case, Jodi Mbedimange was convicted of raping a minor and received an 18-month suspended sentence.
