CBSL appoints two new deputy governors – Sri Lanka Mirror – Right to Information. Forces for Change

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has appointed two new deputy governors, effective this week.

AAM Thassim, assistant governor and secretary to the Board of Management, has been appointed deputy governor with effect from June 20, while assistant governor JPR Karunaratne will assume the new post on June 24.

The appointments were made by the Minister of Finance on the advice of the CBSL Board of Governors and in accordance with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Act No. 16 of 2023.

Mr. Thassim has over 31 years of experience at CBSL, having worked in various areas including banking supervision, international operations and risk management. He has also served as a member of several high-level committees on monetary policy and financial stability.

Mr. Karunaratne has served in CBSL for over 33 years and has extensive experience in financial institution supervision, monetary management and public debt. He has made significant contributions to strengthening the legal framework and consolidation of the non-bank financial institution sector.
