Cayman News urges people to prepare for potential storm

(CNS): A tropical wave southwest of Grand Cayman brought a lot of moisture across the Cayman Islands on Friday, with continued rainfall. Officials are currently watching Tropical Depression Twoit does not pose an immediate threat but could hit our area as a hurricane by the end of next week. However, the Cayman Islands Hazard Management Agency and the Cayman Islands National Weather Service are urging the public to remain vigilant as hurricane season is expected to be heavy.

“I want to remind everyone to stay prepared and monitor official channels for accurate weather updates during what is expected to be a very active hurricane season,” HCCI Director Daniel Coleman said during an internal briefing. Updates will be shared through official channels and the media.

According to a report from the National Hurricane Center, low pressure system AL95 was upgraded to Tropical Depression Two on Friday afternoon and could be upgraded to a tropical storm on Saturday. It is located about 1,500 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands and is moving at about 15-20 mph. Its projected path will bring it close to the Lesser Antilles over the weekend, by which time it may have upgraded to a hurricane.

The Cayman Islands are currently experiencing a wet spell due to a broad area of ​​low pressure several hundred miles southwest of Grand Cayman. This low is moving west-northwestwards towards the Yucatan Peninsula and does not pose a significant threat. However, we expect widespread showers and thunderstorms to develop over the western Caribbean Sea, affecting local weather conditions.
