Catalina Axente of Romania was defeated by American Kennedy Alexis Blades in the round of 16 of the 76kg category at the Paris Olympics on Saturday. Catalina left the match on a stretcher.

Cătălina Axente (28), the two-time bronze medalist of the European Championships (2020, 2023), lost to a 20-year-old athlete (0-11) before the ultimate competition.

She needed medical treatment after Blade threw Axent onto her back.

Romania’s last medal in wrestling was won at the Rio 2016 Olympics by Albert Saritov (97 kg, freestyle wrestling), an athlete of Russian origin.
