FREEPORT, Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas – Grand Bahama Minister Ginger Moxey said at the Millennium Building on August 29, 2024 that the official opening of Carnival Cruise Line’s office in Freeport demonstrates their commitment to the island, its economy and its people.
On the day of the office opening ceremony, Prime Minister Philip Davis, Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, Minister Moxey and other government officials visited the Celebration Key site.
“In anticipation of the grand opening of Celebration Key 2025, the Grand Bahama Ministry has begun implementing initiatives to inspire creativity and innovation among local entrepreneurs,” said Minister Moxie. “Last year, we launched the Empower Grand Bahama micro-grant program to encourage the creation of more authentic Bahamian products, services and immersive experiences for visitors.”
To this end, the Grand Bahama Department of Tourism has awarded 149 small grants to entrepreneurs operating businesses in the Orange Economy to encourage them to develop unique Bahamian tourism products that showcase the charm and diversity of Grand Bahama.
One recipient of the grant, Ostia Thomas, designed an eco-friendly, family-focused, guided e-scooter tour that allows visitors to enjoy the island’s history, Bahamian culture, and stunning natural beauty.
“Ostia is a great example of the resilience, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit of Bahamian islanders…Through the Tourism Development Corporation, we are continually working to empower Bahamian entrepreneurs. We intend to continue to work closely with Carnival to achieve this goal. And…as I mentioned before, there is more to come!”
After the presentation, guests were given a tour of the new office on Mall Drive.
