Full of optimism and a commitment to give their all in every match, the Caribbean Queen, Central American, Pan American and NORCECA champions travel to Poland where they will set up a training base, including training sessions with several countries, before heading to Paris, France for their fourth Olympic Games.
The delegation was led by Mr. Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz and Milagros Cabral, President and General Manager of the Selection Project, who confirmed that the team is in good physical condition, full of optimism and as committed as ever to the Tricolore.
Malte Hoffetz said that this time, the national team will have two young players, setter Ariana Rodriguez and opposite Alondra Tapia, joining the experienced players who will experience their first Olympic Games. Rodriguez and Tapia are expected to provide the country with two to three Olympic cycles.
Programmed Exercises
Next Tuesday, on the 16th of this month, the Dominican team will play its first warm-up match at home against the Polish six-man team at 6:30 p.m.
The match on Thursday the 18th will be against Serbia and on Friday at 6pm they will play against France.
After these friendly matches, the Caribbean Queen team will travel to Paris, France on the 25th and settle in the Olympic Village.
The team’s setters will be Nihuelka Marte and Ariana Rodriguez, center backs Generis Martinez, Lisvel Eve Mejia and Candida Arias, opposite players Gayla Gonzalez and Alondra Tapia, attackers Breyelyn Martinez, Bethania de la Cruz, Yonkaila Peña and Madeline Guillen. Brenda Castillo plays as libero. The reserve player is Geraldine Gonzalez.
This will be the fourth Olympics for the senior women’s volleyball team. The first was in Athens in 2004, and they returned again in London in 2012, finishing fifth, with Brenda Castillo voted “Best Libero” in a star sextet.
